Add-Ons, Stretch Goals, and BackerKit

Hello again!

Well, we’ve hit a few more stretch goals! We'll be reprinting Volumes One and Two, the Envelope of Madness is getting nicely full, and we’re roaring up on the “Reprint Volume Five” goal. Not bad! Warm thanks to all who have helped make this a great campaign!

ADD-ON INFORMATION:

I’ve had a few questions about add-ons, I’ll try to answer them here, and then I’ll go do the same in the FAQs.

EVERYTHING WILL BE AVAILABLE AS ADD-ONS AFTER THE CAMPAIGN IN BACKERKIT

It’s true that there is no one perfect backer level for those of you who want some combination of Volumes Twenty, One, Two, and possibly Five if we hit that goal (we’re very close.) Fortunately, everything will be available as add-ons in BackerKit, so there’s no need to stress. You’ll be able to customize your order at the same time you’re finalizing shipping information and payment. You’ll be able to order extra Envelopes of Madness at that time as well.

EXTRA FUNDS ADDED IN KICKSTARTER WILL TRANSFER TO BACKERKIT OR I’LL KNOW THE REASON WHY

I’ve been told that some backers have added extra funds in anticipation of add-ons, which is absolutely lovely of them! Those funds will of course be transferred to BackerKit to use for add-ons. (If that doesn’t happen then we have a big problem and we will sort it out, but it’s never gone wrong before.) Adding extra for add-ons in Kickstarter isn’t necessary though, you’ll be able to add any number of things in BackerKit and pay for the balance there.

WE MIGHT ADD OTHER IN-PRINT BOOKS AS ADD-ONS IN BACKERKIT? MAYBE? IF NOT, THEY’RE AVAILABLE AT REGULAR BOOK STORES.

Some have asked if I’ll be adding other volumes of the book to the add-ons in BackerKit. I’m not yet sure about that! Everything we aren’t reprinting is available on the TopatoCo store and various other online book shops, but I know it would be convenient, so I have to figure out how much fuss it would be for our fulfillment people. I’ll let you know!

HERE'S WHAT I'D LIKE TO ADD TO THE EoM IF WE UNLOCK THE STRETCH GOALS:

A signed bookplate for Volume 5, Bookmarks for Volumes 2 & 5, new random Arch-Nemesis cards. I love the Arch-Nemesis cards and want to continue to make them with every campaign, but this campaign needed a lot of book-related stretch goals first so we'll see if we get there.

SPARKS AND MONSTERS BACKERKIT STORE CLOSING JUNE 01

Because I don't want to be running two of them at once, I'm planning to close down the Sparks and Monsters store on BackerKit on June 01, so if there's anything you're wanting, including campaign exclusives, head over there before that date.

A  SHORT NOTE FOR OUR SPARKS AND MONSTERS BACKERS

I'll be posting a short update to the Sparks and Monsters campaign after I'm finished here, but in case you miss it, all the Backer rewards for Sparks and Monsters have shipped.

The second shipment of brassy SCIENCE fobs has now arrived, so I'll be sending out the pre-orders that were waiting on those this week. The SCIENCE fobs were...very popular.

We are now sweeping up the inevitable problems with wandering packages and (I'm sorry! It's very rare, I promise!) packing mistakes. As always, if you have a problem, contact us with our handy form or write to us at [email protected].

If you haven't completed your BackerKit pledge manager, you can do that here using the email address you backed with. Please do it soon, I'll be closing the Sparks and Monsters pledge manager on June 01, 2022. After that, you'll have to contact us directly and it's a lot more fuss.

We've funded, and added Volume One!

We’ve met our goal!

Thank you, everyone. Girl Genius Volume 20 will be printed, in both softcover and our usual first-printing puffy padded hardcover edition. Hooray!

The Girl Genius Volume One reprint with a hardcover edition stretch goal has been met

Since the special padded hardcovers of GG Volume One have been sold out for close to twenty years, we think it’s high time to release a new hardcover edition, this time with a regular case cover. We plan to make matching standard case covers of the books as we reprint them over the next few years: the special puffy covers are still reserved for the first printings.

Two new backer levels for Volume One have been added

I’ve added two new backer levels for people new to Girl Genius who might prefer to start with Volume 1 rather than Volume 20. Like the Volume 20 levels, they include an Envelope of Madness, which now contains signed bookplates for both Volume 20 and Volume 1.

The Envelope of Madness has activated

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to sort out the bookplates and volume-specific Envelope of Madness items. I finally gave up and decided to just put them all into the one Envelope of Madness that everyone who qualifies gets. So wether you back for a Vol. 1 or a Vol. 20, you get an EoM with everything in it. Extra books, EoMs and Travel Sticker sets will be available as add-ons in BackerKit after the campaign, so there’s no need to stress about which backer level to pick. The result is that the Envelope of Madness is going to be a little extra mad this time, which is totally fine. We need this campaign to do well, so we’re willing to sign a bunch of bookplates to help things along!

The EoM currently contains:

• One Volume 20 signed bookplate
• One Volume 1 signed bookplate
• One Exorcism Engines campaign bookmark

Soon, as we hit more stretch goals, it will contain more! Next up is a “Thank you” art card featuring the core members of the Mechanicsburg Guild of Monsters, and we have more planned after that!

A word about the stretch goals for Volumes 2 and 5:

We are currently out of Volumes 1, 2 and 5, and are hoping this campaign reaches a level that lets us reprint them all. We’ve made it to the Volume 1 reprint goal. If we do well, Volumes 2 & 5 will also be released as softcovers and standard hardcovers and listed as add-ons in BackerKit, and special signed bookplates will be included in the Envelopes of Madness!
